Executive Summary

Pivoting a venture-backed B2C video platform architecture into a high-scale B2B marketing engine.

Vimily began as a venture-backed B2C video platform ("Vimily Family") designed to capture and curate intimate, prompt-driven video stories, securing $180k in angel investment across Australia, the UK, and the US. While consumer engagement was high, scaling monetisation required a fundamental strategic pivot. As Co-Founder, CTO & Design Director, I led the complete re-architecting of the core product from a B2C application into a high-growth B2B enterprise marketing platform, enabling brands and organisations to harness structured, user-generated video content as an enterprise marketing engine.

Impact at a Glance

Funding
$180k Angel Funding

Secured early-stage venture backing from angel investors across Australia, the UK, and the US to build and launch the initial B2C platform.

Pivot
B2C → B2B Strategic Product Pivot

Re-engineered the core technology stack from a consumer-facing mobile app into an enterprise-grade B2B video marketing platform.

Leadership
End-to-End Leadership

Led end-to-end product development, UX/UI architecture, software engineering teams, and investor relations.

The Challenge

Transitioning consumer engagement into a monetisable enterprise engine

While the B2C "Vimily Family" app successfully proved that structured, prompt-driven video recording reduced user friction, direct consumer monetisation presented long-term scaling challenges.

How do you pivot a consumer-first video infrastructure into a high-trust B2B enterprise platform that empowers brands to capture, curate, and distribute user-generated video campaigns at scale?
Phase 01

B2C Foundations: Vimily Family & Story Architecture

The initial phase focused on overcoming consumer filming friction by building a mobile-first, prompt-guided recording environment backed by early seed capital:

  • Capital & Angel Fundraising: Raised $180k in angel investment across Australia, the UK, and the US to build out the core iOS mobile architecture and cloud infrastructure.
  • Prompt-Driven Video Capture: Designed intuitive mobile UX flows that guided families and individuals through structured storytelling questions, eliminating "camera freeze."
  • Story Page Architecture: Built dedicated, high-emotion video story pages that aggregated individual clips into unified family narratives.
  • Consumer Validation: Tested platform mechanics and viral loops via direct community engagement and high-production promotional campaigns.
Phase 02

The Strategic Pivot: B2C to B2B Architecture

Recognising the enterprise potential of structured video generation, we transitioned from a consumer social utility into a robust B2B marketing engine:

  • Core Stack Re-Engineering: Abstracted the underlying recording, processing, and encoding technology out of the consumer app and into a multi-tenant B2B platform.
  • Enterprise Business Strategy: Formulated the restructured B2B business plan (Vimily Business plan V2.pdf) and executive vision (Exec Vimily.pdf) to reposition our core video technology for commercial clients.
  • Enterprise UX/UI & Brand Repositioning: Designed a polished corporate web identity and admin dashboard that shifted messaging from "family memories" to "enterprise video marketing, testimonial gathering, and crowd-sourced campaign tools."
Phase 03

B2B Execution & Client Deployment

To validate the B2B engine, the platform was deployed across commercial clients and enterprise campaigns:

  • Custom Enterprise Workflows: Allowed brands to construct custom video prompts, control video branding, and embed dynamic video galleries into their own marketing properties.
  • Client Implementation (Fancied Case Study): Deployed custom video capture workflows for partner campaigns like Fancied, demonstrating how commercial entities could collect high-trust video testimonials and user content effortlessly.
  • Analytics & Management Dashboards: Built backend admin portals enabling enterprise marketers to curate submissions, moderate video pipelines, and track viewer engagement metrics.

Strategic Takeaways

Key learnings from pivoting a venture-backed tech startup

01

Architecture Flexibility Enables Rapid Pivots

Decoupling the video capture engine from the initial consumer interface allowed us to rapidly repurpose core IP built during our initial B2C phase into an enterprise B2B product.

02

Monetisation Drives Product UX

Transitioning from B2C to B2B requires an immediate shift in design language, moving from emotional, playful micro-interactions to high-trust, data-dense enterprise dashboards.

03

Value Realisation via Commercial Deployment

Demonstrating that commercial clients (like Fancied) could generate measurable marketing value validated our tech stack beyond its original consumer scope.
